AS9100 Core Tools Explained

Quality Core Tools is the group of problem-solving skills that originated in the automotive industry.  There are many statistical tools used to solve problems, but the IAQG is following the automotive industry’s lead and recommending that these five tools are critical to improving your QMS.

What are IAQG Core Tools?

Core tools are building blocks to effectively create and manage an organization’s quality management system. AS9100 Core Tools help you understand and monitor your Quality Management System (QMS). Using core tools will enhance your ability to understand the effectiveness of your AS9100 QMS, but they are not specifically mentioned in the AS91xx standards.

An analogy would be… If you are a carpenter, you need to have a few basic (core) tools in your toolbox like a hammer, nails, tape measure, etc.  And, you need to know how to use them. Quality Core Tools are the five basic statistical tools you need to have in your toolbox, and once you learn how to use them, you will be better prepared to improve your QMS.
