What is AS9100:2016 Rev D?

AS9100:2016 is the newest aerospace standard updated from AS9100:2009. AS9100D aerospace standard is based on the ISO 9001:2015 quality system requirements.

AS9100 series is the industry-recognized set of standards for quality assurance and risk management. These standards were developed for organizations that are work within the design, development, production, installation and servicing in the Aviation, Space and Defense (ASD) sector.

AS9100 is an internationally recognized Quality Management System that ensures your customers of the high standards your business practices.

AS9100 Rev D takes the ISO 9001:2015 requirements and supplements them with additional quality system requirements, which are established by the aerospace industry in order to satisfy DOD, NASA, and FAA. The purpose of the standard is to provide a single quality management system for use within the aerospace industry internationally.

AS9100 Rev D does NOT define the quality of your product or service, but rather provides the guidelines to achieve consistent results and continually improve the process. These standards build confidence for your customers that your organization has been certified by an accredited certification body and meet the applicable Aerospace Quality Management System Standard requirements. AS9100D is focused on meeting customer expectations and delivering customer satisfaction.

The International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) manages the Standard.

The current revision is Rev. D (AS9100D 2016), but AS9100C is still active.

AS9100 Rev D Includes all of ISO 9001 quality management system requirements and cites additional requirements for a quality management system for the aerospace industry. The standard was developed by Working Group 11 of ISO TC20 and was supported by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG). This standard is accepted worldwide, with participating countries using their own numbering conventions. Despite the differing numbers, the standards are identical across the globe.

What are the benefits of becoming AS9100 certified?

Although this certification may not be required, the industry has moved toward requiring subcontractors and suppliers to be AS9100 compliant or certified. When your business becomes AS9100 Rev D certified you not only gain confidence with your customers, but you also become a highly competitive organization worldwide.

What is AS9100Store’s Impact?

As with most business processes, the more you do yourself, the less the cost, but on the other hand the more time consuming it will become. Even if you decide to use external resources to save time, you, your staff and employees will still need to be involved throughout the process. Although there is no “do it yourself” solution, you can be self-sufficient through AS9100’s basic requirements by using pre-formatted materials for documentation and training. While these procedures and methods will need to be tailored for your organization, these guidelines are typically created to minimize the changes required and maximize the ability for others to use and comprehend them. The goal of any quality management system should not be to add unnecessary paperwork but to make all references clear and highly usable.
